Know The Most Common Disorders Of The Pancreas

The Pancreas is a glandular and digestive organ that secretes juice which is important for the proper functioning of the body. it produces hormones, insulin, and enzymes. It is located in the abdominal cavity of the stomach. There are two main functions of the pancreas- endocrine and exocrine function. Endocrine function helps in the secretion of insulin that controls blood sugar levels while exocrine function helps in proper digestion. There are a number of pancreatic disorders that needs attention and requires timely treatment. The most common ones are discussed below:

Acute Pancreatitis:
Acute pancreatitis refers to the inflammation of the pancreas. It happens suddenly by severe upper abdominal pain. The pain may last for several days. The other common symptoms include bloating, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and fever. Other causes might include family history, certain medications, infections, consumption of alcohol, hormonal imbalance, the presence of gallstones and so on. Chronic Pancreatitis:
Chronic Pancreatitis refers to the destruction of the pancreas. It mostly affects men aged between 30 and 40. Pancreatic Cancer:
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most common types of cancer. It occurs when a cell of the pancreas gets damaged causing the malignant cell that starts growing out of control. The risk is more with increasing age and mostly affect men. The main causes include cigarette smoking, hereditary factor and chronic pancreatitis. The survival rate after the treatment highly depends upon the stage of cancer. Initially, cancer doesn’t show any symptoms but jaundice may be seen as it progresses. The standard treatment methods include chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Cystic Fibrosis:
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease, it creates pancreatic disorders that produce sweat and mucus. It affects the respiratory, digestive and reproductive system. The most common symptoms include abdominal pain, rectal prolapse, bloody diarrhea, bulky and great stools. It cannot be cured completely, however, the progress of the disease can be slowed down.
